‘Sickle Cell Warriors’, the first in a two-part documentary funded by Genomics England, has launched in Bristol.
The film has been produced by Primrose Granville and her team at Bristol African Caribbean Expo. Primrose is Chair of our Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire ICB Diverse Research Engagement Network and a public contributor to our Research & Innovation Steering Group and our Kidney Disease HIT.
The documentary puts a spotlight on the experiences of those living with sickle cell and their support networks. It aims to raise awareness and increase understanding of sickle cell, as the critical importance of genomic research into this condition is recognised.
Part one of ‘Sickle Cell Warriors’ features the voices of people with lived experience of sickle cell, whether they, or their friends and families are impacted by the condition or they are actively contributing to research and support efforts for sickle cell. Part two will follow, focusing on the sickle cell community’s hopes for the potential opportunities that genomic research could bring for those with sickle cell and improve their quality of life.
