Drug and Alcohol HIT Director wins research prize

Dr
Kyla Thomas has been jointly awarded the Society for the Study of Addiction (SSA) Fred Yates prize for researcher of the year 2019.

The
prize recognises early or mid-career researchers who have made a significant
and specific contribution to the addictions field in recent years.

Dr
Thomas’s work was praised for its focus on being topical, complex and tackling
a neglected area. It was also praised for having an impact on the policy of
regulators and NICE.

Dr
Thomas is a co-Director of the Drug and Alcohol HIT, as well as being a
Consultant Senior Lecturer in Public Health Medicine at the University of
Bristol, Clinical Director for NIHR Clinical Research Network West of England
and a Public Health Consultant at South Gloucestershire Council. She shares the
award with Dr Hamid Noori.
