Bristol Health Partners congratulates Bladder and Bowel
Confidence Health Integration Team (BABCON HIT) Director Nikki Cotterill, who
has been made Professor of Continence Care at the University of the West of England (UWE) Bristol.

Nikki, a nurse by background, has been Associate Professor
in Continence Care at UWE since 2018 and is also the Continence Lead for
Southmead Hospital, North Bristol NHS Trust.

BABCON HIT launched in 2019 to promote and support bladder
and bowel continence for everyone in Bristol, North Somerset and South
Gloucestershire.

In less than two years, BABCON has achieved a significant
amount, including developing a new app to support people experiencing bladder or bowel leakage, which won a Nursing Times Award in 2021, and seeing two of
its studies included in the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) England’s new Research portfolio summary.

BABCON Co-Director Marcus Drake, who is Professor of
Physiological Urology at the University of Bristol and consultant at the
Bristol Urological Institute (BUI), North Bristol NHS Trust, says:

“Nikki began working in the BUI in 2003. Following her PhD,
she has pioneered many aspects of continence research, particularly focussing
on patient experience and improving patient outcomes.

“Getting a full professorship is a big challenge,
especially in nursing, and Nikki has achieved this very swiftly. It is
something we must recognise as one of the greatest achievements by anyone at
the BUI.”
