Thanks to The Big Lottery Fund, Avon Wildlife Trust can continue to deliver nature, health and wellbeing projects across Avon for a further four years. The Trust will give people access to quality natural environments, promote the five ways to wellbeing and offer opportunities to gain skills.
The Trust structures the delivery of their sessions using the five ways of wellbeing:
Connect – with other people by working as a team and connect with nature
Be Active – go walking, explore, carry out practical conservation and gardening
Take Notice – of the weather, seasons, plants and wildlife around us
Keep Learning – practical skills, wildlife facts, about opportunities to spend time outdoors, learn from each other
Give – through voluntary work, helping others, through team work and support, and by taking something home to share with friends and family
There will be structured courses for people experiencing mental ill health and long-term health conditions. Participants will meet one day per week for up to six months. Led by experienced staff, participants will be supported to achieve their personal goals leading to healthier lives.
There will also be opportunities for individuals with learning disabilities, and people from specific communities. Working in partnership, the Trust can develop a programme that meets the needs of the individuals and communities. There is scope to provide eight to 12 sessions for up to four projects a year.
Both of these programmes will be offered in the following areas:
Bristol: Dundry View, Filwood; Ashley, Easton and Barton Hill; and Southmead
North Somerset: Weston-super-Mare
Bath and North East Somerset: Twerton and Whiteway
