Bristol CCG success in HSJ Awards

Congratulations to Bristol CCG and Bristol Community Rose Clinic, which won the Primary Care and Community Service Redesign category at the 2014 Health Service Journal (HSJ) Awards.

Bristol Community Rose Clinic provides personal care and support for women who are experiencing problems as a result of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). Bristol Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) commissioned the clinic in 2013, which is run by Dr Katrina Darke, a GP experienced in supporting women with FGM and based at Lawrence Hill Health Centre.

The clinic also offers ‘opening’ surgery for women who have been ‘stitched’ or ‘closed’ as part of FGM.

The Health Service Journal (HSJ) Awards, which took place last night (19 November), is the largest celebration of healthcare excellence in the UK, highlighting the most innovative and successful people and projects in the sector.

Judges described the project as “a standout example of innovative working addressing a taboo subject”

Martin Jones, Clinical Lead, Bristol CCG said: “Bristol has led the way nationally in its work related to Female Genital Mutilation and we are very proud that the Rose Clinic has won this prestigious award.

“The clinic has been commissioned as a result of demand in the local community and is proving very successful. Women from local communities have helped develop the service from the start and they remain actively involved in supporting it.”

Bristol organisations did well in the shortlist for the 2014 awards, with North Bristol Trust shortlisted twice, in the Acute Sector Innovation and Patient Safety categories, and Bristol Community Health shortlisted in the Improving Care with Technology category.
