Deep Brain Stimulation Nurse Association annual conference hosted by MOVE HIT

The Parkinson’s and Other Movement Disorders Health Integration Team (MOVE HIT) at North Bristol NHS Trust hosted the Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) Nurse Association Annual Conference on 16-17 March 2017.

DBS is a type of surgery that helps control movement symptoms for patients with Parkinson’s, tremor and dystonia. It is only carried out at specialist centres in the UK, including North Bristol NHS Trust.

The conference brought together 25 nurses working in the field for updates on developments in DBS and address common challenges. Delegates collaborated on issues such as the DBS counselling and consenting process and considered how to set realistic goals with patients to address expectations of the surgery. There were workshops about the medical devices connected with the surgery to help delegates refresh their knowledge and give feedback to the companies providing them.

The event was hugely successful and helped progress the HIT’s objective to provide an excellent and research informed regional advanced treatment service.
