The Bristol Post and Bath Chronicle are continuing their search for the city’s top heroes of healthcare.
The Bristol and Bath Health and Care Awards are back and they want to shine a light on the people who are literally saving lives every day.
Around one in 60 people in Britain are employed by the NHS. Most of us never get to hear about the work they do in hospitals, doctors’ surgeries and care homes throughout the region, and yet when we really need them they’re always there.
From GPs, pharmacists, nurses, junior doctors, and consultants on the front lines of health care, to volunteers, porters and community organisations supporting people day-to-day, to researchers and scientists whose work leads to real improvements, these awards aim to include everyone who helps make a difference to the health of people in Bristol and Bath.
Nominate someone you believe deserves some recognition. The awards are split into 10 categories:
GP Practice of the Year
The judges are looking for a GP practice in Bristol or Bath that stands out for the level of care they provide. Have you received great service? Has a doctor or practice nurse gone above or beyond the call of duty, or has the receptionist always greeted you with a smile and a friendly word? This award recognises the contribution of everyone in the GP practice to provide a good service to patients, where staff have gone the extra mile when treating you or someone you know.
Healthcare Professional of the Year
The judges are looking for a healthcare professional in Bristol or Bath who demonstrates an innovative and caring approach to their work. This person must demonstrate outstanding levels of commitment to patient care and put the patient at the heart of what they do. Entrants can be from any healthcare profession, and can work anywhere, from community care to surgical theatres.
Healthy Lifestyle Award
This award is for a company, community group, or individual in Bristol or Bath who is working hard to encourage, support and promote healthy living. The judges want to hear about groups or individuals who are doing things like (for example but not limited to) helping get people moving, educating on healthy eating or improving local people‘s mental health.
Volunteer of the Year
This award acknowledges those volunteers who have shown an exceptional and outstanding commitment to helping people. They can be from inside or outside the NHS, working formally or informally. The judges want to know how they go above and beyond the call of duty and the difference they are making to people’s lives.
Volunteer and Community Sector Team of the Year
This award is about celebrating the important work that the third sector and community teams do in health and care. Are you – or do you know someone who is – doing something new, something bold or different? Something new to you, new to the sector or a new way of tackling an age-old problem? Or do you know someone who just does what they do really, really well?
Healthcare Team of the Year
This award will celebrate the very best teams work going on in our health care systems in Bristol or Bath. The nominated team will have provided an improved performance or service and demonstrate significant achievements and commitment to improving care and patient experience. Team work must be at the heart of everything they do.
Health Campaign of the Year
The Health Campaign of the Year Award recognises the best communications and/or information campaign of the year. The award is open to both internal communication campaigns as well as external initiatives including public information campaigns or work to share evidence or research findings. It covers all media, whether broadcast, print, outdoor, PR, digital, mobile or integrated multi-media. Entries can come from individuals, organisations or agencies and must include details of the objectives of the campaign including target audience, and key success factors, and provide evidence of the impact of the campaign, its successes and details of challenges overcome. Campaigns must have launched since 1 January 2018.
Best Innovation Award
This award celebrates innovation in health and care – a new approach, application of an idea or technology. The judges want to hear how the innovation was developed and accepted, and how it solves a problem or improves patient diagnosis or care. Entries into this award must have been in a ‘real world’ setting since 1 January 2018.
Research Impact Award
This award recognises excellent research that will make a real difference to people’s lives. Whether it is evidence that will change practice in the NHS or public health or research into novel treatments, the judges want to hear about research that has made a big splash, or has the potential to make a significant impact. Entries into this award must be from research published since 1 January 2018.
Outstanding Achievement Award
This award is about celebrating someone who has pushed through change with tenacity and determination. This person may have had to overcome objections or barriers, finding new ways of working, developing new approaches to deliver the best possible care or other impact for people in Bristol and Bath. The judges will want to hear how they overcame the challenges presented and made a real difference.
