The Cleft Collective wins prestigious award for PPI work

The Cleft Collective team have won the Royal College of Paediatric and Child Health/NIHR Paediatric Involvement and Engagement in Research (PIER) prize.

The prize recognises significant contributions to excellent patient engagement for NIHR Clinical Research Network Portfolio studies.

The Cleft Collective began its work in 2012 and is a UK-wide research programme investigating the causes of cleft, the best treatments of cleft and the long-term wellbeing of those affected.

It is one of the largest cleft lip and palate research programmes in the world and has recruited over 3,000 UK families to take part in the study to date.

Their aim is to improve the lives of affected children and their families by informing the delivery of health services through high quality research.

The team work closely with the Cleft Lip & Palate Association and are funded by The Scar Free Foundation.

The PIER prize recognises the programme’s commitment to patient and public involvement (PPI) from the very beginning to develop the study.
